ALLENTOWN, PA—State Senator Nikil Saval (D–Philadelphia) and Lehigh Valley Stands Up will sound the alarm on the state of Pennsylvania housing on Thursday, March 24, in Allentown at 3:30pm. They will be joined by residents and community leaders to call for the passage of the Whole-Home Repairs Act (Senate Bill 1135).
The Whole-Home Repairs Act is a bipartisan bill that establishes a one-stop shop for home repairs and weatherization while creating new, family-sustaining jobs in a growing field. With hundreds of thousands of people across the Commonwealth living in homes that are unsafe because they can’t afford repairs, the Whole-Home Repairs Act would allow communities to fight housing scarcity, community displacement and instability, and blight all at once.
This bill is the first of its kind in the nation, giving Pennsylvania the opportunity to be a leader in preserving affordable housing and training a workforce that can meet growing home repair and weatherization demands, right now, when residents need it most.
Following the event, speakers will take questions from the media.
