Times News is celebrating America’s 250 Semiquincentennial with a “Our Beginnings” Special Edition

On July 4, 2026, America will be celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To honor this special occasion, Times News and Lehigh Valley Press will be releasing its first-and-only America 250 Special Edition containing local reports on the role Carbon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties played in American History. This special edition will be included in the July 1 edition of the East Penn, Bethlehem, and Salisbury Press; and July 2 edition of the Times News, Catasauqua, Northampton, Northwestern, Parkland and Whitehall Coplay Press.

This edition will take a look back at the effects our local people, places and events have had on America’s legacy. Forty-eight pages of local/regional history. We’ve collected stories from across the counties, spotlighting towns like Tamaqua, Palmerton, Whitehall, Bethlehem, Lehighton and more! We’ve interviewed descendants of early settlers and brave patriots. We’ll be diving into the significance of local history like the Ben Franklin drinking well, the Switchback railroad and, of course, the coal industry.

This special edition will be available to all home delivery subscribers and can be purchased anywhere that offers the Lehigh Valley Press and Times News newspapers on July 2. Additional copies of the America 250 Special Edition can be purchased at the Times News office located at 594 Blakeslee Blvd Dr. W in Lehighton for $2.50. In addition, we’ll be publishing the responses for our “What does Freedom mean to you?” sweepstakes and a copy of the Declaration of Independence on July 3.
