Michele Pessina and Nancy Wilt Appointed to
Allentown School District Foundation Board of Directors
(April 11, 2016, Allentown, PA) Serving the children of the 3rd largest urban school district in Pennsylvania, the Allentown School District Foundation (ASDF) Board of Directors voted at its board meeting on April 7 for two new board appointments: Michele Pessina and Nancy Wilt.
“We are excited to add two very enthusiastic individuals committed to the cause,” says Richard L. Button, ASDF president. “Michele and Nancy add a great deal of knowledge to the board in their respective professions and are both high-energy individuals.”
Michele Pessina
Michele Pessina attended Allentown School District as a student at Cleveland Elementary, Trexler Junior High School and William Allen High School. Having attended Millersville University and graduating with a duel degree in elementary and special education, she continued on, earning a master’s degree in special education from Lehigh University. Pessina taught in ASD schools for 15 years. From 1979 – 1996, she taught special education students at Mosser Elementary, South Mountain Middle School and Union Terrace Elementary School. Currently, she substitutes at Parkland School District. Pessina has a solid background in volunteerism and community relations. She joins the ASD Foundation board having assisted many local organizations such as the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Thrivent Financial and the Girl Scouts of America. At St. Stephens, she taught Sunday school, was director of Vacation Bible School (an all-day program with up to 80 children) and the youth group, and served on church council. She was a member of the board of the Central Lehigh County Chapter of Thrivent Financial from 2003 – 2006 and was board president for one year. She was Brownie and Junior Girl Scout leader for the troops at Nativity Lutheran Church for five years. She and her husband Michael reside in Allentown.
Nancy Wilt
A parent of three Allentown School District students, Nancy Wilt recognizes the importance of providing a well-rounded educational experience to all students and has been a vocal supporter of the programs afforded through the Allentown School District Foundation. She has been active in the ASD community since her youngest child enrolled at Union Terrace Elementary where she served as a parent representative on the safety committee. She has also served as a member of the Parent Advisory Council for Union Terrace and Francis D. Raub Middle School, as well as William Allen High School. Currently she serves as president of Raub’s PTO, where she also served as treasurer; as well as secretary for William Allen High School PTSA. She is a past president and secretary at Union Terrace Elementary. Having studied communications at both Cedar Crest College and Lehigh Carbon Community College, she joins the ASDF board with strong communications and organizational management skills. Since 2014, Wilt has served as the district office manager for State Representative Peter Schweyer (22nd PA legislative district) in Allentown. From 1995 – 2014, she had a long tenure as legislative assistant, office administrator and then executive assistant to State Senator Lisa M. Boscola (18th PA senate district). She started her career in 1990 working for Clean Water Action in Allentown. Wilt resides in Allentown with her husband Scott and three children.
