Event wraps up artist series at local attraction celebrating American Artist Appreciation Month
EASTON, Pa. (Aug. 20, 2024) – Visitors to downtown Easton had creative outdoor fun today at Crayola Experience celebrating International Chalk the Walk Day by helping to create a CHALK-ful mural with images and messages of kindness, optimism, inspiration, and joy.
Using the sidewalk as a canvas, national award-winning artist Mario Zucca led the creation of a unique Colors of Kindness masterpiece while kids and kids at heart added their own personal touch to the larger-than-life mural.
The chalk art event is the last of a series of Crayola Experience workshops led by local artists to inspire kids’ creativity in celebration of American Artist Appreciation Month. Activities included:
Creative Lettering: Families tried their hand at lettering using Crayola markers as Crayola graphic designer Michelle Foster took them through the basic principles of modern calligraphy.
Colorful Birthday Wishes: Kids created colorful cards to share birthday wishes with children at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital in a workshop led by Haley Marcial, author of the Birthday Wishes Journal. The Lehigh Valley author’s keepsake journal captures children’s birthday wishes, memories, and milestones as they grow older.
Character Design: Kids explored the seven elements of art, tried some fun visualization exercises, and learned a variety of idea generation techniques while using mixed-media tools to create their unique, colorful character during this workshop by Mellen Reinbold, a local illustrator known for her fantastical characters.
Through the end of the month, kids also can express their inner artist for a chance to be featured on Crayola’s website to inspire others. Young artists can complete one or more activity sheets at Crayola Experience through the end of the month and submit them for a chance to be showcased on Crayola.com in early fall.
