ALLENTOWN, PA (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) – An old fashioned hot shave, a haircut and a style, a businessman’s manicure, even a shoe shine. All will be available in Center City Allentown when Jimmy and Rose Moyer, of Jimmy’s Barbershop, of Westend Allentown fame, open their second location at 619 Hamilton Street. Opening date is slated for October 1ST.
The 700 square foot street level location, owned by Cityline Construction, will feature a slick industrial look with exposed bricks and spiral stainless duct work. Antique leather barber chairs and a standard barber’s pole will accent the new digs. Large stainless steel tool cases will be utilized instead of a traditional barber station. A large screen TV, and other manly creature comforts, such as snacks, coffee and beverages, will also set the stage at Jimmy’s Barber Shop on Hamilton.
“We are excited about the growth in the city district. Adding the services of Allentown mainstays such as Jimmy and Rose Moyer brings another positive spin to the overall mix of retail base. We are appreciative and pleased to have such proven operators as tenants in one of our buildings,” says Tom Williams Jr., Real Estate Director, Cityline Construction
“This corner location is poised to be a new hub,” observes Rose Moyer, who works with her husband Jim as a stylist. “This new location is directly on the art walk, and just doors from the planned Moravian Book Shop,” she adds, noting that an upscale burger business will be opening directly across the street, Shula’s will soon be neighbors, and the location is teaming with a growing number of professionals.
“Barbers are a dying breed. The old fashioned barber shop, where business men gathered not only for a trim and a shave, but to discuss the matters and opinions of the day, are becoming increasingly scarce across the country,” says Jim, who has been barbering and styling hair since he was 21 when he left the Navy. Moyer has owned shops across Allentown, and his father, continues to own his barber business.
Among Jim’s regular clients are Mayor Ed Pawlowski, and Congressman Charlie Dent. The Moyers say they will be hiring additional stylists, a manicurist, and shoe shine personnel. Call 610-841-4773 for more information.
