BETHLEHEM, PA – STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education is at the heart of today’s high-tech, high-skill global economy. A program in the Bethlehem Area School District is giving students hands-on experience, with support from PPL Electric Utilities.
Avalon Insurance Group has awarded $10,000 in Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) funding to The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District. These funds will support the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science program at Liberty and Freedom high schools. Project Lead the Way exposes students to areas of study that they currently do not have an opportunity to pursue, and provides them with a foundation and proven pathway to college and career success.
The Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science program offered at the Bethlehem Area School District’s is a rigorous and relevant four-course sequence allowing students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Students engage in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person to learn content in the context of real-world cases. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future.
“Everyone is a winner when we support education. Giving back to our communities, including the Bethlehem Area School District, is something we are pleased to do,” said Chris Davis, Avalon Insurance Group. “With its hands-on learning experiences, that help develop science education and skills, we are proud to support Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science program.”
