TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – On one of the hottest days of the summer came one of the longest races of the season. The heat was not a deterrent for Roger Ainslie of California and Stephen Hall of Australia, who teamed up to win the 9th Annual Mike Walter Madison on Friday night at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.
The night also featured the first Longest Lap of the season, a fan-favorite that features track stands on the home straight. Njisane Phillip of Trinidad and Tobago won the event with a great one-lap sprint.
In addition to the Mike Walter Trophy, the Chairman’s Cup was awarded to the winner of the U.S. Women’s Open on Friday night. At night’s end, it was Anita Stenberg of Norway who hoisted the trophy as she staved off Emma Cumming of New Zealand in the omnium competition by winning the final race.
Tom Rotherham won the men’s omnium with 17 total points as Rotherham secured a win in the miss-n-out, the first event of the evening. The Mike Walter 100 Lap Madison was not part of the men’s omnium.
Legends 45+ also competed on Friday night. T-Town Hall of Famer Pat Gellineau received the largest ovation of the night for that field as he earned a win in the 10-lap scratch with a photo finish. Gellineau finished second in the overall Legends 45+ omnium to Mike Miller, who won the other two Legends events on Friday night.

Fans can receive free general admission into the event if they bring a non-perishable food item donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale in advance here and start as low as $6. Tickets will also be available at the box office on the night of the event.
