The second annual City of Allentown & Salvation Army Band Concert in the Park will be presented on Sunday, November 5 at 3pm at Trexler Middle School Auditorium.
The concert was originally scheduled for May 22 as part of the city’s more than 50 free event Summer Concert Series. It had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.
The Salvation Army PenDel Brass & Singers Band consists of musicians from around the Pennsylvania and Delaware region who are travelling to Allentown to play with the City of Allentown Pioneer Band.
In 2015, the Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation partnered with The Salvation Army to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of “Doing the Most Good” through a free outdoor concert in West Park.
The Salvation Army has been supporting the Lehigh Valley community since 1890, providing safety net services such as emergency food and financial assistance, case management, clothing distribution, after-school tutoring and enrichment, summer day camp, week-long summer camp at Camp Ladore in the Pocono Mountains, music instruction, spiritual counseling, adult education, holiday food and toys, shelter, soup kitchen meals, senior citizen programs, winter coat distribution, and recreational activities.
“The city is honored to be working alongside such a vital organization like The Salvation Army,” said Department of Parks and Recreation Director Lindsay Taylor. “We are very excited to include this special concert showcasing not only terrific musical performances, but celebrating the success of a well-established organization that provides so many services and programs here in Allentown.”
