Members of the public can hear and comment on the recommendations of city consultants regarding future actions for shaping downtown Allentown at a public meeting on Monday, November 24 at 6:30pm at the Lehigh County Government Center Public Hearing Room at Seventh & Hamilton streets.
Goody Clancy and Associates out of Boston is leading the process of preparing a downtown development and urban design plan for the city. Attendees are invited to review strategies to add housing, job and retail options; enhance parks and community destinations; improve walkability and other convenient transportation choices; and connect with neighborhoods.
Mayor Ed Pawlowski said, “The downtown renaissance is proceeding rapidly.” “The downtown urban design plan is assisting the city in preparation for future projects and advising the city on how we want those projects to frame the form and function of the downtown.”
The development projects either completed or underway downtown have created an opportunity for further reinvestment that builds upon the downtown’s transformation and resurgence as the place of prominence in the region.
Goody Clancy is joined on the study by the traffic and parking consulting firm of Nelson/Nygaard, also out of Boston; Code-A-Metrics, a zoning and codes specialist; and the local engineering firm of Barry Isett and Associates.
The study is scheduled to be completed this winter.
