DOWNTOWN ON THE MOVE PLANNING MEETINGS SCHEDULED

Members of the public are invited to discuss and explore options for land use and transportation alternatives as well as the physical appearance of Downtown Allentown on Tuesday, October 21 at the Lehigh County Government Center Public Hearing Room at Seventh & Hamilton streets.

City consultants Goody Clancy and Associates out of Boston will make a 30 minute presentation at 5pm followed by 45 minutes of open discussion.  The consultants will repeat their 30 minute presentation at 6:30pm again followed by 45 minutes of open discussion.

Goody Clancy and Associates is leading the process of preparing a downtown urban design and development plan for the city.  They conducted initial public meetings in an open house format back in August, as well as downtown sidewalk discussions with residents and employees.

“A lot has occurred downtown in the last two years and the streetscape is changing on an almost daily basis,” said Mayor Ed Pawlowski.  “The downtown urban design plan is helping us get ready for future projects and to guide the city on how we want those projects to shape the downtown.  The city and our consultants are interested in the opinions of members of the public.”

Goody Clancy is joined on the study by the traffic and parking consulting firm of Nelson/Nygaard, also out of Boston; Code-A-Metrics, a zoning and codes specialist; and the local engineering firm of Barry Isett and Associates.

The study is scheduled to be completed in December 2014.
