The Allentown Department of Parks & Recreations’ Queen of the Court basketball program is being recognized with a Pennsylvania State House citation on the occasion of its tenth anniversary.
State Representatives Peter Schweyer and Mike Schlossberg attended last night’s session and presented the citation to coach Brittni Kholi.
The citation notes that “Throughout its history, the Queen of the Court basketball program has made inestimable contributions to the welfare of society through a sense of fellowship and through its programs, which are designed to enhance the quality of life for all. A dedicated leader, as well as a succession of volunteers and participants, has made this possible, keeping ever possible of the noble maxims of the organization.”
The citation is signed by Representative Schweyer and House Speaker Mike Turzai.
Queen of the Court is a free basketball fundamentals program held at South Mountain Middle School and offered to girls in fifth through eighth grade that live and attend school in Allentown.
Queen of the Court features a wide variety of guest speakers consisting of former high school and college players, coaches and other community members that make a lasting impact on the girls.
Queen of the Court is offered each spring and fall. The latest seven-week session began on October 8. It runs Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 21 from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Parents are invited to attend and spectate on the bleachers.
