Free Veterans’ Writing and Storytelling Events Highlight Weekend’s Programs
BETHLEHEM, PA—A free screening of “The Unknowns,” the display of more than 1,000 images of veterans on the ‘Our Hometown Heroes’ banners, a National Moment of Remembrance and special veterans empowerment performance and writing workshop highlight the 2019 Memorial Day Celebration presented by Embassy Bank at SteelStacks May 25-27.
On May 25, 1 p.m., in the ArtsQuest Center’s Fowler Blast Furnace Room, the community is invited to listen to veterans and their families remember those they have lost in service of our nation. Jenny Pacanowski of Women Veterans Empowered and Thriving will curate this ritual of storytelling and explain how ancient cultures utilized performance to bring the community together to grieve, celebrate and hold a space of kindness, compassion and non-judgment.
The following day, from 1-4 p.m., the Banana Factory is holding a free writing and storytelling workshop for veterans and family members to explore their grief, loss, anger and other emotions. The special event is offered to those who have lost themselves or lost someone they loved and need a place outside of the holiday barbeques to express what Memorial Day was truly intended for. The workshop is free and open to all veterans; for more information contact Jenny Pacanowski at womenveteransempowered@
