Event for ages 5-12 is part of ‘Youth Soccer Day’ at FIFA World Cup™ SoccerFest & Viewing Party
BETHLEHEM, PA—Girls and boys ages 5-12 are invited to enjoy a fun-filled morning honing their soccer skills and learning new ones during the free Youth Soccer Clinic presented by Women’s Premier Soccer League team Lehigh Valley Tempest June 16 at SteelStacks. The event, which is part of the FIFA World Cup ™ SoccerFest & Viewing Party, will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. and is open to all skill levels. Anyone interested in attending should sign up in advance at lvsoccerfest.com.
Lehigh Valley Tempest’s largest soccer clinic to date, the SoccerFest youth clinic will include a variety of activity stations featuring hands-on instruction by Tempest players and coaches, as well as staff and players of Lehigh Valley United. Children will be organized by age and ability to provide every participant with the best possible experience and learning opportunity.
Other highlights of the day include soccer activities like open play and soccer tennis, as well as activations by partners like Philadelphia Union & Bethlehem Steel FC, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League, Soccer Magic and others.
Families looking for a great way to treat dad on his special day can arrive early and enjoy the Father’s Day Breakfast at the ArtsQuest Center starting at 8 a.m. Following the clinic, the public is invited to catch all the action from France on the large, 25-foot-wide LED screen as the U.S. Women’s National Team takes on Chile for a noon match. Plus, the Lehigh Valley Grand Prix is offering the opportunity to jump in high-speed go-karts and cruise around the half-mile race track set up on the campus as part of the SteelStacks Grand Prix.
Lehigh Valley Tempest Owner Brittney Ruggieri, a former soccer coach and player, says this year’s SoccerFest is a great opportunity to highlight the growth in women’s soccer and the unique opportunities the sport provides to girls.
“Girls playing soccer is always a positive thing,” Ruggieri says. “The sport gives women an environment to be valuable and powerful, and these attributes almost always find a way to positively influence personality and behavior outside the touchlines. We can’t wait to continue to carry the torch of women’s soccer in our community, and spend time with the youth players of the Lehigh Valley who will attend SoccerFest and play with us.”
The FIFA World Cup SoccerFest & Viewing Party™, which has been featured on ESPN, FOX Sports, USA Today and more, will show all three of the U.S. Women’s National Team preliminary group matches (June 11, 16 and 20) on a large outdoor screen on the SteelStacks campus, as well as offer a variety of soccer-related activities on the days the U.S. plays. In addition, FOX Sports will offer taped look-ins of the crowds at the viewing party as part of its nightly wrap-ups of the U.S. women’s team play from France.
Partners who present SoccerFest are Discover Lehigh Valley, Klunk & Millan Advertising, Lehigh Valley United, SWBR Inc. and ArtsQuest.
