On Monday January 28th, 2019, Local Food Market LV will host a free event open to the public at Funk Brewing Company in Emmaus from 5-7. This date marks the soft opening of next day deliveries from Monday to Friday in the Coopersburg, Emmaus and Center Valley areas for orders at their online store. This is in addition to the Friday delivery service currently offered in Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Coopersburg and Center Valley. The event will feature local farmers, product samples from the online store and ordering information.
Steve and Nicole Shelly have changed their two businesses, Godshall Farm in Upper Saucon Township in operation since 2007 and Downtown Allentown Local Food Market and combined it into one business called Local Food Market LV. Their farm will now serve as a local food hub to collect and distribute products from small farms and businesses. This convenient service is offered as a solution to the problem of getting local food invariably. They will continue to organize the Fresh Fridays Market in downtown Allentown Fridays from May to October from 12-4pm on the Arts Walk.
After the first season of the Fresh Fridays market in 2017, the Downtown Allentown Local Food Market started an online store instead of holding a Winter market for the comfort of the vendors and customers. Weekly orders and deliveries have continued all year round ever since then. So far drop offs and pickups have been only on Fridays. All food is seasonal, so the store is updated each Tuesday and orders are accepted until Thursday at 9 am for Friday pick up. Orders are accepted anytime.
Highlights of the store include pizza kits from Switchback pizza, local oats and flour from Red Cat Farm, ramen kits from the kitchen at Local Food Market LV, pork from Wild Fox Farm, cheese from Valley Milkhouse, eggs from The Nesting Box and granola from The Bread Box and Bakery. The signature product is a seasonal produce collection available in three sizes and contains only popular produce from multiple local farms.
Local Food Market LV is an agricultural marketing company that buys directly from small farms and local businesses to offer a product line of high quality food available for online orders and delivery in the Lehigh Valley. We believe that with some organization, small farms can work together to make local foods available more consistently. Our goal is for 20% of Lehigh Valley residents eating local food by 2020.
