BETHLEHEM, PA–It’s an awesome night under the stars when chart-topping folk-rock group The Avett Brothers return to SteelStacks for the 2018 Yuengling Summer Concert Series Aug. 17, 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show, which takes place at the Levitt Pavilion at the base of the former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces, are $50 in advance and $55 day of show. They go on sale starting Feb. 13, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Feb. 16, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
Formed in 2001, the North Carolina-based Avett Brothers have been described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of The Beatles and the raw energy of The Ramones.” A fan favorite from coast to coast, the band demonstrates it genre-crossing abilities in both its recordings and its live shows, excelling in a blend of alt-country, bluegrass, rock, folk and Americana.
In 2007, The Avett Brothers released “Emotionalism,” which debuted at the top of the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums chart. Later that year, the band won the Americana Music Association’s Duo/Group of the Year and New/Emerging Artist of the Year awards. The group continued to gain a loyal fan base as well as critical acclaim, and performed its song “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise” at the GRAMMY Awards in 2011. Two years later its album “The Carpenter” was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 2013 GRAMMY Awards, after debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200.
The Avett Brothers’ most recent album, the GRAMMY nominated “True Sadness,” was released in 2016, and was the subject for the HBO documentary “May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers,” directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. The film made its premiere at the 2017 South by Southwest film festival.
“We’re thrilled to be in the fifth season of our partnership with ArtsQuest and SteelStacks,” says Jen Yuengling, Vice President of Operations for D.G. Yuengling & Son., Inc. “Summer brings one of the best ways to enjoy life, by kicking back with a Yuengling Lager in the fresh air, while relaxing to the live sounds of talented artists like The Avett Brothers.”
