International Artist, Author Speaks at Allentown Art Museum



 

African American Art Expert David Driskell to Address Third Thursday January 18th

 

Allentown, PA — David C. Driskell, one of the world’s leading authorities on African American art, has lectured around the globe, and his works are included in major collections of art museums internationally. On January 18th at 6:30 p.m. he will be in the Lehigh Valley at the Allentown Art Museum.

 

Driskell will be the featured speaker at the Allentown Art Museum’s Third Thursday events, where he’ll discuss “Innovations and New Trends in African American Art” with Curlee Holton, executive director of the David C. Driskell Center and senior artist-in-residence in the Department of Art, College of Arts & Humanities, the University of Maryland. The event is co-sponsored by Raven Fine Print Edition and the David C. Driskell Center, University of Maryland.

 

Trained as a painter and art historian, Driskell works primarily in collage and mixed media, and printmaking. He has maintained an active career as a teacher, curator, collector, art administrator, art consultant and practicing artist and scholar. He has authored five exhibition books on the subject of African American art, co-authored four others, and published more than 40 catalogues from exhibitions he has curated.
