New Bethany Ministries is a finalist for a grant from the the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation. They needed to create a short video for the grant and they specifically asked our students to help. New Bethany has given our students unlimited valuable experiences and opportunities and I would love to be able to help support them with this grant. I’m not sure if it is possible (or even allowable) but is there a way we could share this with the district or the community? Voting for New Bethany can be done once daily from May 8-19th. If teachers and administrators combined with the community to vote for New Bethany we could potentially secure a grant that will ensure the expansion of New Bethany’s food bank. I am so proud of the students and the partnership they have formed with New Bethany Ministries- you have to check out the link to the video!!!! http://www.lehighvalleyfoundation.org/grants/50th-anniversary-spark-grants/spark-grants-food-housing

Mindfulness and Self Care
Mindfulness is about being aware of the present moment. Learning to be mindful brings numerous benefits. So much so, in fact, that mindfulness training is being done in more and more schools with great results. Even the Apple Health app has a whole section for tracking mindfulness and a list of recommended apps. A quick Google search for “mindfulness apps” brings back a long list of simple, easy programs that almost anyone can try. Here are just a few of the benefits of regular mindfulness practice: may improve grades, fights insomnia and increases sleep, helps problem solving, improves athletic performance, and changes the physical structure of the brain.

Summer Positions
2017 Summer Camp Counselors Needed
Northeast Ministry is seeking 8 highly motivated, responsible individuals who love working with children to serve as Camp Counselors for our 2017 Summer Camp program. Northeast Ministry’s Summer Camp program runs for 7 weeks throughout the summer and serves an average of 62 children per day. The 2017 Summer Camp begins on Monday, June 19th and concludes on Friday, August 4th. A mandatory paid training is required for all counselors the week before camp begins. These are paid positions offering between 32-40 hours per week.
Camp Counselors are needed to help supervise children during the day, participate in/lead activities, and serve as positive role models. Counselor hours are Monday – Thursday from 7:30am-3:30pm and Fridays from 7:30am-12:30pm. Rotating schedules for extended Fridays will be discussed at interview. Prospective Camp Counselors must have graduated from High School and successfully pass the following background clearances/pre-employment testing: PA State Police Background Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprinting, Megan’s Law background check, drug test, and TB skin test.
This is wonderful opportunity for individuals to work with low income children and families, building relationships and making a difference in the lives of the campers. If you know someone who may be interested, please have them contact me at 610-691-3355 or via email as soon as possible.
Thank you for assisting with Northeast Ministry finding the right people for this position!
Kind regards,
Paula A. Johnson

On Tuesday, May 16, Spring Garden will be celebrating “Arts” Day! The Fine Arts, Graphic Art, Martial Art, the Art of Dance, and the Culinary Arts will be explored by our students on that day. We even have Spring Garden alumna returning to present workshops! The Guitar Group from East Hills, under the direction of Keith Quelet will present the opening concert on May 16, and local singer and song writer, Kira Willy, will perform at the conclusion of Arts Day. It should be a wonderful learning experience for our students and staff. Thank you to all our presenters, parent and staff volunteers! We couldn’t do this without YOU!
