The Hot Club of Philadelphia is an acoustic ensemble dedicated to playing “Gypsy Jazz” which they performed last night at 187 Rue Principale in Emmaus.
The band performs as a quartet which includes guitarist Barry Wahrhaftig, rhythm guitarist Dan Pearce, bassist Jim Stager and violinist Joseph Arnold. Later in their program the band features vocalist Phyllis Chapell.
They take you back to a simpler time. The music is melodic and it swings. “Someone to Watch Over Me” by Cole Porter was definitely the sentimental favorite with the audience.
They perform throughout the Philadelphia area and recently performed at The Hotel Bethlehem.
Allentown JazzFest runs through this Sunday May 7th.
