TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – Team Bicycling laid claim to the Rodale Corporate Challenge title a year ago.
The representatives from Rodale did the exact same thing on Friday night.
Comprised of Cait Giddings, Lydia Tanner, Matt Jacobs, Lou Mazzante, Colin McSherry, and Mike Schweizer, Team Bicycling defeated Team Valley Preferred Z in the final. Team Valley Preferred Y finished in third as it defeated Team Rodale in the bronze-medal final.
The 17th annual Rodale Corporate Challenge had nine teams representing Rodale, Valley Preferred, B.Braun, Air Products, Computer Aid, Buckeye Partners, and Coordinated Health.
There were also professional men and women racing as well in the program.
Colleen Gulick swept the women’s races, winning all three events for the ladies. She won the overall omnium for the women with 21 points. Mary Costelloe finished second in the final omnium standings with 12 points.
The Rotherham brothers, Matt and Tom, swept the men’s events on Friday night. Matt won the first three while Tom was victorious in the final two. Matt won the overall men’s omnium with 25 points with Jack Payne earning second place in the final omnium standings with 23 points.
Matt did win the one mile record attempt race, but was unable to set a new one mile track record as he was :01.14 short of the current mark 1:40.
The World Series of Bicycling continues next week with one of the most unique events of the year, Tandemonium. The night features intense racing from the professional riders, however, they team up and battle on tandem bikes. Also, the Hubert Schleh Memorial Unknown Distance events are on the schedule. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.
