First Northampton County Karst Geology Symposium to be Held in Partnership with Lehigh Valley Greenways Conservation Landscape

[Northampton County, PA] –What happens underground can have a significant impact on what happens above ground. In areas with karst geology, water can move through cracks and underground channels in ways that are different from other landscapes, creating unique considerations for development, stormwater management, groundwater protection, and sinkhole risk.

The Northampton County Karst Geology Symposium will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026 at Alumni Hall at Northampton Community College. The Symposium will bring together municipal leaders, planners, and community members to learn how karst geology can affect groundwater, drainage, and development, and explore best practices for managing stormwater in areas where sinkholes are a concern.

Featured speakers include Nate Pritchard, District Manager of Northampton County Conservation District Kyle S. Rybacki, PhD, from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, and Susan Myerov, AICP, Director of Environmental Planning for the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Registration is open for the Karst Geology Symposium and pre-registration is required at the Northampton County RecDesk: https://norcoparks.recdesk.com/Community/Home. The registration deadline to attend will be October 10, 2026.

This event is supported in part by LV Greenways Conservation Landscape. Any questions, please contact Sherry Acevedo, Conservation Coordinator sacevedo@norcopa.gov
