New Family Room Provides Backdrop for PCFLV’s Annual Back-to-School Bash

Event brings 39 local pediatric cancer families together for an afternoon of fun, connection, and back-to-school support.

ALLENTOWN, PA, August 13, 2026 — The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) welcomed 39 local pediatric cancer families to its annual Back-to-School Bash on Wednesday, August 12, bringing cancer warriors, siblings, bereaved siblings, parents, and grandparents together for a few hours of fun and connection.

For the first time, PCFLV was able to host the event at its own headquarters, utilizing its new Family Room addition, parking lot, and backyard. The new space provided a special setting for families to gather, celebrate the end of summer, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Inside the Family Room, 69 children received age-appropriate backpacks filled with school supplies. The supplies were collected through PCFLV’s annual community donation drive, with PCFLV also purchasing additional supplies to ensure every backpack was filled. Families could also choose from a table of free toys and use themed props at a photo booth.

Outside, PCFLV’s parking lot and backyard were transformed into a summer celebration, with games including a football toss and corn hole, along with arts and crafts, face painting, and balloon art. Families enjoyed freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs, along with cotton candy, popcorn, soft pretzels, and ice cream treats from the So Cool Bus.

PCFLV’s friends at Ai Orthodontics and the Emmaus Rotary Club added to the fun by leading a water gun game and a swimming pool fishing game, with prizes for participating children. Employees from Red Robin volunteered their time at the food stations and handing out backpacks.

“Our Back-to-School Bash is always one of our favorite events because it gives our families a chance to come together for some summer fun, and we get to watch the kids’ faces light up when they receive their backpack labeled with their name” said Kristine Buss, PCFLV Program and Services Manager. “Being able to host it at our own office this year made it even more special. Our new Family Room gave us a beautiful space to welcome our families, while our parking lot and backyard gave everyone room to enjoy all the activities.”

PCFLV completely funds the Back-to-School Bash, allowing participating families to enjoy the event at no cost. The event is made possible through the generosity of community members and partners who donate school supplies, snacks, toys, and their time.
