Could this past Saturday have been any more perfect? Back at Goodman Stadium for the Mountain Hawks second home game of the season, it was warm, the sun was shining, and over 6000 people filled the stands. They watched with anticipation to see if Lehigh could pull a rabbit out of the hat and beat the Princeton Tigers. And they did, with a final score of 20-35. Notably, their last win against the Tigers was back in 2016, which made this win long overdue.
For this reporter, who has had the best seat in the house for the last three seasons, I remain utterly surprised at the turnaround The Mountain Hawks have had (so far) this season, with an impressive standing of 3-1. Is it something in the water? I jokingly ask. The Mountain Hawks are literally on fire.
I conclude that it is a team effort. Their defense has become incredibly tight, and breakout running backs, Luke Yoder #6 (sophomore) and Jaden Green #0 (freshman), successes from this game cannot be overlooked.
In the first quarter, Yoder ran the first touchdown six minutes into the game. The Tigers made every attempt to score, The Mountain Hawks held a strong wall which prevented them from entering Mountain Hawk field territory many times. The Tigers landed on the scoreboard with a little under 6 minutes left in the first quarter and tied the score 7-7.
The second quarter, The Mountain Hawks kicked it up a few notches and made it impossible for the Tigers to score at all. The Mountain Hawks added two more touchdowns and two field goals with a score of 7-21 at the half.
By the third quarter, tensions ran high, the crowd remained on the edge of their seats as they waited to see which team would score. The Tigers brought in a touchdown and a field goal which brought the score to 14-21.
The Tigers scored once more with a touchdown in the fourth quarter, which brought the score to 20-21. Too close for comfort for these hungry Mountain Hawks, as they dominated the field, and brought in two more touchdowns and field goals for a final score of 20-35.
Join The mighty Mountain Hawks back on the field for their next home game against Bucknell next Saturday, September 28th.
