The Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber, proud partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, is gearing up for a memorable 2020 holiday season!
“Here comes Santa Claus, Here come Santa Claus, right down….” Main Street?! That’s right! The annual Slatington Tree Lighting event is back this year! Although it will look a little different than prior years, Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce (GNLCC) is excited to be able to offer this event again for Slatington Borough! With an expanded footprint to allow for social distancing and masks required, the festivities will proceed!
Kevin Schmidt, President and CEO of Neff’s National Bank, a sponsor of the event commented, “The Neffs National Bank is proud to be a Christmas tree lighting sponsor. We have been involved in the event for many years. This event is very important in bringing the community together especially during this year of uncertainty. We are more than happy to participate in this and other GNLCC events.”
Bring the kids out to experience the wonder of holiday lights and activities through their eyes. In partnership with Crayola, there will be a custom coloring sheet kit for kids to take home and color. Once finished, be sure to drop your child’s artwork off at Bechtel’s Pharmacy for their artwork to be submitted into a coloring contest! Winners will be chosen by December 15th and announced on the Chamber’s Facebook page. And thanks to A.F. Boyer and Dimmich & Dinklelacker, there will be some special movie characters that the kids can meet and greet with! So be sure to bring cameras to capture all the excitement.
Next, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate thanks to Bob and Nancy Treskot while you stroll through the vendor’s market completing some of your holiday shopping while supporting your neighbors! The market will feature companies like Scentsy, Color Street, Touchstone Crystal, Doxboy LLC local jerky and more!
To spread the holiday cheer throughout the community, GNLCC is also excited to present their first ever House Decorating Contest! Participants are encouraged to decorate the exterior of your home this Thanksgiving weekend and submit your address here. Light up the town with inflatables, garlands, wreaths, and more to enjoy throughout the holiday season! Andy Gildner, chair of the GNLCC Board, had this to say about the house decorating contest “In a year of physical distancing, our events committee wanted to have a safe way for our community to show Christmas cheer. The house decorating contest is one way to show our fellow neighbors good will and joy. We encourage our neighbors and friends to nominate the ‘Clark Griswold’ of their neighborhood.”
The Board of Directors will be judging homes submitted on Wednesday, December 2nd. (Please note: submissions will only be considered for Slatington Borough, Walnutport Borough and Washington Township. Submissions will be accepted until December 1st.) The winner will be announced at the Slatington Borough Tree Lighting on Friday December 4th!
