VPCC RELEASES 2017 RACING SCHEDULE
TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – Early Friday morning, the Valley Preferred Cycling Center Executive Director Marty Nothstein released the 2017 racing schedule, which included the World Series of Bicycling, the Fuji Bikes Pro-Am, and Masters & Rookies.
The 2017 World Series of Bicycling schedule features an impressive 14 nights of racing starting the second week of June and concluding on the final Friday in August. The WSB season kicks-off with six straight nights full of UCI sanctioned races, spanning the entire month of June.
“June is going to be a really good month here in T-Town,” Nothstein said. “No other velodrome in the world is having this many UCI events this year. We are going to have a lot of great riders here to put on a great show with a lot of UCI points on the line.”
The VPCC is beginning the WSB season with Opening Weekend, June 9 and 10, with the UCI U.S. Sprint Gran Prix and the UCI Red Robin All-Stars, respectively. Racing consecutive nights right away allows fans to welcome in summer in T-Town, fill their void of racing from the off-season, and enjoy the many new features the facility offers fans this year.
“The staff is really excited for opening weekend,” Nothstein related. “We have some big plans for those two days and we think it is going to be two spectacular days of bike racing.”
The nights with UCI events continues June 16 with the Fastest Man on Wheels, June 23 with the Festival of Speed and then concludes with another week of consecutive races as the Keirin Cup XXXI is on June 30 and the Madison Cup XLI is on July 1.
The month of July features the 11th annual Golden Wheel Race, Tandemonium, the 9th annual Mike Walter Madison, and Keirin Revenge/U.S. 10 Mile Championships.
August features a new night, Sprint Wars, which is set for Aug. 11, the week after the 18th annual Rodale Corporate Challenge.
“Sprint Wars is an all-inclusive sprint tournament,” Nothstein said. “We aren’t going to group riders by the usual categories or even genders. Our sprint final could be Mandy Marquardt vs. Patrick Gellineau. It should be a very entertaining night.”
Air Products Finals follows on Aug. 18 and the WSB season concludes on Aug. 25 with the second edition of the T-Town Showdown, the ultimate fan experience, which debuted in 2016. The night’s race schedule is a mystery where riders don’t know what type of event they are racing until seconds before the starting pistol is fired.
The 2017 Fuji Bikes Pro-Am season begins on May 23 and the Masters & Rookies season starts on May 27. Click here to view the complete WSB schedule, here for the complete Fuji Bikes Pro-Am schedule, and here for the entire Masters & Rookies slate.
