ALLENTOWN, PA (May 15, 2023) – KidsPeace will host a free Community Day event on Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2023 at its outpatient clinic location on Green Street in east Allentown.
The event will be held from 1 to 4 pm, and will include a formal dedication of the community mural project on the outside walls of the clinic at 801 East Green Street.
Representatives of KidsPeace and funders BSI Corporate Benefits and People First Federal Credit Union
will join Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk and the mural’s artist Monica Salazar in celebrating the mural and the clinic’s contributions to the mental and behavioral wellness of east Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. (For more information about the mural project, see the KidsPeace Stories video “Monica’s Story” on www.kidspeace.org.)
Children will get to enjoy art projects and face painting during the event, and hot dogs and balloons will be available as well (while supplies last). In addition, guests will be invited to plant seeds in a new community garden on the clinic’s property.
The Community Day Celebration will also note an important partnership with Lehigh County at the KidsPeace clinics on Green Street and on its Broadway campus in Fountain Hill. Earlier this year the county announced it will reimburse KidsPeace for the cost of the “walk-in” mental health assessments available at the clinics. The assessments are provided free of charge to the individuals who seek them; during the sessions they speak with a trained professional who helps them develop a safety plan and options on addressing mental health issues they or a family member are experiencing. The agreement also includes funding for case management to help the client find the right treatment options for their condition.
Since 1882, KidsPeace has been building on its expertise to give hope, help and healing to children, adults and those who love them. Through its comprehensive range of residential treatment programs; accredited educational services; unique psychiatric hospital and foster care and community-based programs, KidsPeace is dedicated to helping people connect, transform and overcome their challenges to ensure a stable future, transition to adulthood and gain independence. Since its doors opened, nearly 300,000 children have participated in one of the multitude of programs KidsPeace offers.
