WHITEHALL, Aug. 24 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill will be holding a free shredding and electronics recycling event Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Francis H. Sheckler Elementary School, 251 N. 14th St., Catasauqua.
“Thieves will go to great lengths to access your personal information to either get your money or steal your identity and simply throwing away documents just isn’t a safe thing to do,” McNeill said. “Shredding is a way to safely get rid of your old, personal documents and this event is a great one-stop shop to also safely dispose of your unwanted electronics to help ensure harmful chemicals don’t pollute our environment.”
Participants must be a resident of either the Borough of Catasauqua or Hanover Township, both in Lehigh County, and proof of residency will be required.
Those residents can bring their unwanted electronics, as well as any documents to be shredded to this year’s event. There is no fee for items such as computers, monitors, DVD and video players or gaming systems, but there is a fee for televisions. For computer monitors it is $18, for TVs under 42” it is $38, for models over 42”, projection, in wooden cabinets, tubes, or broken TVs it is $55.
There is a limit of ten boxes of documents per vehicle.
McNeill and her staff will also provide information about preventing identity theft from the state Attorney General’s office and various state programs such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid, and Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
More information is available by calling McNeill’s office at 610-266-1273.
