Allentown School District In Your Schools: January 16 – 27, 2017



 

Allentown School District announces the following events and activities throughout our District. Highlights include:

January 16 – ASD Schools and Offices CLOSED for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

January 23 – No School for students. It is a Professional Development Day. 

    • ASD Parents, Guardians, Families and Community – January 21; 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Parent University and Title I Parent Advisory Council Workshops. These FREE workshops are to educate and inform parents on several topics that will support them throughout their child’s academic year. The Annual Title 1 Parent Advisory Council will meet during this event as well. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Free child care is provided for children age 3 to 10. Event will be held at Building 21 Allentown High School, 265 Lehigh Street, Allentown.

 

    • ASD Public Event – January 21; 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.:  Public Facilities Assessment Meeting at Trexler Middle School, 851 N. 15th Street. The public is invited to attend this meeting that will offer an extensive review of the Facilities Assessment Report compiled last year. The report will be followed by School Board discussion on District facilities and prospective plans for growth focusing on school renovations and consideration of new building construction for the future.

 

    • Roosevelt Elementary School – January 23; 12:00 p.m.: Young Male Empowerment. Join Roosevelt in a conversation about the best practices to develop a positive and successful mentor program for young male students. Roosevelt would like to start this program in the spring and invite men to consider being a mentor or teaching a session for the program.

 

    • Community Event – January 23; 6:00 p.m.: – 8:00 p.m. Manny Scott Community Event at William Allen High School’s J. Milo Sewards Gymnasium, 106 North 17th Street.  An original “Freedom Writer” from the 2007 hit movie of the same name, Manny Scott, will bring his message of healing, hope, perseverance to our community. Scott will present “Understanding One Another and Working Together for the Success of Our Children” for all ASD families and the entire community at William Allen High School. FREE and Open to Public. Entrance to J. Milo Sewards Gymnasium is from the Turner Street doors.
