Allentown Police Department K-9 units will be sleeping in extra comfort.
K-9 Canto, K-9 Django, K-9 Harley, K-9 Fedor and K-9 Remi each received donations of Big Barker orthopedic beds from representatives of the Philadelphia-based manufacturer at a ceremony this morning at the Allentown Police Academy.
“These dogs do a lot of difficult work and they earn a good night’s rest,” said Allentown Police Chief Keith Morris. “The donation from Big Barker is very generous and I know that our department appreciates it very much.”
“Police K9s work tirelessly to keep our communities safe, and it is an honor to be able to provide them with beds that allow them to them rest comfortably,” said Eric Shannon, Big Barker Founder and President. “These dogs are extremely active, so having a bed that supports them and keeps their joints off of the floor is key in maintaining their levels of mobility.”
“The dogs barked throughout the presentation ceremony because they wanted to try them out,” quipped Mayor Ed Pawlowski. “I want to add my thanks to Big Barker. I am sure that the dogs will find the beds to be very comfortable.”
K-9 units and their handlers from police departments in Salisbury, Lower Saucon and Bethlehem townships and the Colonial Regional Department in Northampton County also received the beds.
