Rembrandt painting will be revealed as planned later in the month
Allentown, PA—With the announcement today by Governor Wolf that special COVID mitigation restrictions put in place on December 12 will expire on Monday, the Allentown Art Museum confirms that it will reopen to the public on Friday, January 8, 2021. The Museum will be open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged but not required to reserve a timed ticket in advance at www.AllentownArtMuseum.org.
The Museum also confirms that the much-anticipated exhibition Rembrandt Revealed, which spotlights the master’s 1632 painting Portrait of a Young Woman, will open in the Museum as planned, to members on Saturday, January 23, and to the public on Sunday, January 24. The painting returns to the Lehigh Valley following conservation in New York that uncovered new information about its creation that inspired worldwide press coverage. Rembrandt Revealed will be on view through May 2, after which the painting will travel to Canada for exhibition in a Rembrandt show at the National Gallery in Ottawa before returning to Allentown for a second special exhibition in the fall.
Also in January, the Museum will present a week of virtual programing celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., from January 16 through January 22. Complete details at www.AllentownArtMuseum.org.
When the doors to the galleries reopen Friday, January 8, the Museum’s COVID safety precautions will still be in place:
- Operating at reduced capacity and limited
- Requiring staff and patrons to wear face
- Enforcing social
- Offering hand-sanitizing stations throughout the
- Continuing enhanced cleaning measures throughout the building and daily health screenings for all Museum
