(Bethlehem, PA)– Tape Swap Radio is excited to announce the return of the Lehigh Valley Punk Rock Flea Market, our market dedicated to art and music with a DIY, independent, and punk rock spirit. The 2019 event will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Ice House in Bethlehem. The event will be free to the public and open to all ages, featuring over 40 vendors, food, music, and a massive music sale.
The Bethlehem Area Public Library will be on-hand selling over 20,000 CDs for $1 apiece (and crates for $25 apiece) in order to raise money for the library’s remodeling of its Bob Cohen Room. The CDs are not limited to punk rock, spanning many different genres from rock to blues to jazz to classical. The large CD collection previously belonged to a now-defunct record store and was recently donated to BAPL.
Last year’s event, which was held in the library’s Bob Cohen Room, attracted an estimated 350 people surpassing attendance expectations and testing the capacity of the library’s room. This year’s flea market promises to be bigger and better, moving to the Ice House in Bethlehem to allow for more attendees and more vendors. Initial feedback from Tape Swap Radio social media and email suggests a significant increase in attendance is likely compared to last year.
Over 40 vendors have already registered, which is more than double last year’s 20 vendor total. Vendors will be selling vinyl records, cassette tapes, guitar pedals, drum machines, amps, other music instruments and equipment, skateboard products, original artwork, vintage clothes, band merchandise, local music memorabilia, zines, books, toys, games, minerals, handmade tapestries, jewelry, posters, and more.
Vendors for this year include Lost Soul Skateboards, Killer Tofu Records, Vince’s Vintage, Lehigh Valley Girls Rock, Starling Rarities, Pinups for Pitbulls, Northern Vixen, Behind the Looking Glass, Second Banana Co., HaggisVitae Studios, KnichaelMight, Symbiotic Trash, Luckydog Essentia & Curios, Jupiter Crush, ScaredTooth, 2nd Base Vintage, and more. A handful of punk and music enthusiasts will also be selling personal items.
Santoro’s Franks & Chili in Bethlehem will be selling beef and vegan franks as well as sides. There will also be coffee, soda, and water available. Bethlehem’s DJ REVERBISCAR who spun records at last year’s event will return to provide a soundtrack this year.
Tape Swap Radio is an original live music series which airs every other Friday at 11 PM on WDIY 88.1 FM, Lehigh Valley Public Radio. The program is dedicated to independent and DIY music in the Lehigh Valley and hosts events at various Lehigh Valley venues throughout the year. Tape Swap Radio is also a participating organization in Ice House Tonight, which organizes a variety of artistic events at the Ice House throughout the year.
