The Berks Agricultural Resource Network will recognize Sweeney’s reporting on Berks County agriculture.

Bethlehem, PA. – November 1, 2019 – The Berks Agricultural Resource Network (B.A.R.N.) will present PBS39 reporter Brittany Sweeney with the Agriculture Journalism Award at their annual Bountiful Berks Banquet on November 1. The award honors Sweeney’s coverage of Berks County agriculture on PBS39 News Tonight.

“We envision vibrant communities, and farms play a vital role in a community’s health,” said Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media™, home of PBS39. “We’re proud of Brittany for her work as a reporter and congratulate her on this award!”

Brittany Sweeney is passionate about telling stories in her home state of Pennsylvania. She currently serves as the Berks County reporter for PBS39 News Tonight. Sweeney’s coverage of Berks County farmers includes a segment highlighting how B.A.R.N. helped the Pure Wild Tea company in Bernville to expand their retail locations. She also profiled a farm in Allegheny Valley that has been in operation for 10 generations, and how the current generation is adapting to a changing world.

“People may not know that there are so many fresh, locally-sourced options for food right in their county,” said Sweeney. “I’m proud to tell the stories of the farmers and the organizations like B.A.R.N. who demonstrate the importance of agriculture in a community.”

The Berks Agricultural Resource Network is a non-profit organization that provides support to farmers in the county by providing marketing resources and coordinating with other advocacy groups to develop policies promoting agriculture with government officials. B.A.R.N. also provides agricultural education for the public through workshops and farm tours.

The Agriculture Journalism Award will be presented at the Bountiful Berks Banquet on Friday, November 1 at the Leesport Farmers Market. To learn more about B.A.R.N. and its mission, visit berksag.net.
