Tandemonium set for Friday night at Valley Preferred Cycling Center
TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – Commonly used for recreational purposes, the tandem bicycle will be used for professional glory in Tandemonium on Friday night at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, part of the 2017 World Series of Bicycling season. One of the most popular events in the WSB season in T-Town, Tandemonium is the only event in the world that puts world-class riders on tandem bikes at high speeds with a lot on the line.
Tandem action will begin before opening ceremonies on Friday night with time trials for the match sprint tournament beginning at 7 p.m. The evening’s schedule includes a sprint tournament as well as a mass start race with all the tandems out on the track at once.
The tandem team of Matt Rotherham and Tom Rotherham won both the tandem sprint finals and Tandemonium a year ago, however, the duo will be riding with separate partners this year. In addition to sweeping the tandem events, the Rotherham brothers set a new tandem flying 1 lap track record in the time trials in 2016 as well.
In addition to the tandem action, professional women and the stagiaires fields will be in action with a good slate of racing. Plus, the annual Hubert Schleh memorial Unknown Distance races are on the schedule for both the professional men and women. Schleh, who is a T-Town Hall of Famer, was a Lap/Bell official for many years with the Unknown Distance serving as his favorite event. Yearly, he is honored with two Unknown Distances in his name.

Off the track, it is Bolt’s Birthday Bash as VPCC’s bike safety ambassador is set to celebrate another birthday surrounded by several of his mascot friends from the greater Lehigh Valley area. Also, Kona Ice will be serving delicious treats in the plaza.
The 2017 World Series of Bicycling Concert Series continues with Stacy Gabel.
Fans can watch all the action from the VeloDeck hospitality area and enjoy a free beer for just $11. Tickets start as low as $6 with children 12 years old and younger being $2. Tickets are on sale in advance here and can also be purchased at the box office on event night. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.
