Chances are, if you’re a fan of live local music, you’ve enjoyed the musical antics of Social Call. Led by frontman & guitarist Larry Werner, he performs with guitarist/vocalist Shane Stoneback, bass/vocalist Joe Cenchitz and drummer/vocalist Jose Matos, providing a wide variety of tunes sure to engage a crowd of all tastes.
Recently, the band took on a different kind of event for one of their own. Recently diagnosed with stage IVB Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma that has metastasized, frontman Larry Werner is fighting for more than just stage time. He is a loving husband and father of six who is now undergoing regular and costly treatments with limited medical coverage, and has donated his time and talents to the Lehigh Valley community for over 30 years.
In an effort to help Larry and his family, the Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association (GLVMA), the organization behind the Lehigh Valley Music Awards, took on this event, now known as “Rock The Cure – A Benefit for Larry Werner”, to be held on Sunday, September 27th at the Schnecksville Fire Company, located on Old Packhouse Road in Schnecksville, PA from 12 PM to 6 PM. The musical stylings of The James Supra Band, The Aardvarks, The Armadillos, The Cherry Bombs and of course, Social Call themselves, along with an impressive list of special guests will entertain this crowd of all ages, with all proceeds to benefit Larry. In addition to this A-list of local music, food, drinks and adult beverages are included in the $25 ticket price.
The list of sponsors for this event is growing. Currently sponsored by The Willow Street Pub, Creative Learning Center of the Lehigh Valley, Herr’s, Crazy K’s Entertainment, Arnold’s Flooring, Party Tents for Rent by Marty and more, the event still has opportunities available for sponsorship. Interested parties can get more information by emailing Jose Matos at josematos94@gmail.com.
For anyone with a desire to help in this endeavor, donations can be made payable to The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association (with Rock the Cure Benefit for Larry Werner noted in the memo field) and can be mailed to: 3140 W. Tilghman St, #206, Allentown, PA 18104. A listing of area businesses where tickets and/or t-shirts can be purchased can be seen on the event’s Facebook page, as well as further information and announcements.
Join the GLVMA by coming out on Sunday September 27th – we’ll see you there!
