ADVENTURE ALLENTOWN BECOMING AVAILABLE

Spring and summer recreation enthusiasts are learning about the multitude of leisure activities available throughout the City of Allentown in the newest edition of Adventure Allentown.  Mayor Ray O’Connell announced today that the 2018 Spring/Summer edition of Adventure Allentown is being distributed city-wide beginning this week.

The city’s 36 page guide to spring and summer leisure activities will be sent home with Allentown School District students, and will be available at various city organizations and businesses and placed in free outdoor publication racks throughout the park system. City subscribers to The Morning Call received a copy of Adventure Allentown in their newspaper on Sunday, April 1.

“The Adventure Allentown guide is a wonderful resource for city residents and visitors,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Lindsay Taylor.  “I’d like to encourage all families to come out and enjoy this wide variety of recreational opportunities in our beautiful park system this spring and summer.”

The Adventure Allentown guide contains information on special events, youth and adult programs; city parks and golf; music and theater; the library and museums; healthy living and other useful material for city park and recreation services.  The guide also includes a list of park amenities, recent and upcoming park improvements, event schedules and a comprehensive list of community agencies dedicated to youth, adults and senior citizens.

In 2018, for the first time, an eight-page condensed version of Adventure Allentown is available in Spanish, with a distribution plan for 7,500 copies at various businesses and organizations targeting the Spanish-speaking population in Allentown.

Adventure Allentown continues to grow in popularity each year,” said O’Connell.  “It informs residents and visitors about our programs that emphasize the city’s commitment to fitness, healthy lifestyles, the arts, and economic vitality through events that capitalize on Allentown’s greatest assets.  And now the Spanish printing of the magazine expands our reach to an even larger segment of our community.”

Adventure Allentown captured APEX awards in 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.  The 2009 award was for a PR, Public Information & Public Service Campaign.  The 2013 award was for Publication Excellence in the Magazines & Journals Print category and the 2014, 2015 and 2016 awards were for Publication Excellence in the Magazine, Journal & Tabloid Design Layout category. Adventure Allentown was also honored with the 2009 Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society – Agency Publication and Promotion Award.

Another fall and winter guide is planned for release in October 2018 and will include the distribution of 55,000 copies.

Residents may also pick-up the Spring/Summer edition of Adventure Allentown at City Hall, the Park and Recreation offices on Parkway Boulevard and other various locations throughout the city.  For questions, please call 610-437-7750 or email Christy.Alvord@allentownpa.gov
