The William Allen baseball and softball fields are the places to be for youth baseball enthusiasts on Sunday, April 29. That’s when the City of Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation will conduct a free Major League Baseball® Jr. Home Run Derby™ and Scotts® Major League Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run™ competition beginning at 1:00pm.
Pitch Hit & Run™ is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball® and will be contested on the baseball field. Boys and girls will have a chance to test their core baseball/softball skills in four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14. The individual Pitching, Hitting and Running champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each division age group will advance to the Sectional Level of competition with the hope of advancing through four levels, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals during All-Star Week®.
The Home Run Derby™ will be contested on the softball field. Boy and girl competitors are divided into two age divisions: 12 and under and 14 and under. Local champions from both age divisions will advance to the Regional Level. Regional champions will advance to the National Finals which will take place during MLB® All-Star Week™.
Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of each of the two competitions.
