TEDxLehighRiver Announces 2017 Speakers for the 5th Anniversary Event

Allentown, Pa. — October 17, 2017 — TEDxLehighRiver returns to Miller Symphony Hall Saturday, October 21, 2017 at noon. Now in its 5th year, TEDxLehighRiver is a community-based initiative aimed at bringing together a diverse group of speakers and audience members to participate in a program of engaging and thought-provoking presentations and conversation.

TEDxLehighRiver was conceived in 2013 by a group of committed individuals from around the Lehigh Valley and founding partners:  PBS39, Allentown Symphony Association, Lehigh University’s Baker Institute, and Carolyn Katwan.

The program theme this year is AT OUR FINGERTIPS.  This year’s eight speakers will address ideas that are within reach, ready to be embraced, and not at all hard to comprehend or act on – but powerful enough to change the way we exist in the world.

The speakers are a diverse group with ideas that span the development of the human spirit from early in life to its end.  Our speakers will explore, in new ways, communication, innovation, community, mindfulness and more.

This year’s speakers and topics are:

The organization was pleased to announce last month that Lehigh Valley Health Network is on board this year as a Platinum Partner.

“To continue to provide the highest quality health care our industry must be innovative and find new ways to deliver the best care efficiently and cost-effectively,” said Debbie Salas-Lopez, MD, LVHN’s Chief Transformation Officer. “It’s a natural for LVHN to engage in programs like TEDxLehighRiver and to be developing incubators for visionaries and thought leaders like the Air Products Center for Connected Care and Innovation that soon will begin operating at our One City Center location in downtown Allentown.  Collaboration with groups outside our profession will go a long way toward imagining, developing and ultimately shaping the future of health care.”

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
