Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center Applauds Nomination of Dr. Rachel Levine to the Position of PA Secretary of Health
ALLENTOWN, PA — In response to Governor Tom Wolf’s nomination of state Physician General and Acting Secretary of Health to the permanent position of Secretary of Health, the following statement may be attributed to Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center Executive Director, Adrian Shanker:
As Pennsylvania’s Physician General, Dr. Rachel Levine has made incredible strides for LGBT health equity, for combatting opioids, and for so much more. LGBT pennsylvanians experience incredible health disparities, including high rates of tobacco, alcohol, and other drug usage, low rates of HIV and cancer screenings, and increased barriers to high-quality health care. Pennsylvania needs a Secretary of Health who will prioritize the attainment of the highest quality of health for all Pennsylvanians, and we are confident that Dr. Rachel Levine is that person. We encourage the Pennsylvania State Senate to swiftly confirm Dr. Levine as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health.
