The big game between rivals Lehigh University Mountain Hawks and Lafayette Leopards was held Saturday, held at Goodman Stadium.
The sun was shining, a cool breeze in the air, as these two teams took the field for the 159th time. In attendance, there were over 14,000 fans cheering for their favorite team.
Within the first five minutes of the game, the Leopards wasted no time scoring their first touchdown and field goal. The Mountain Hawks prevented any more Leopard touchdowns during the first quarter, and with a little over five minutes left they entered the scoreboard with a touchdown and field goal. The score was tied, 7-7.
At the beginning of the second quarter, with high enthusiasm and drive, The Mountain Hawks scored again, leading the Leopards, 14-7.
That lead did not last long, as the Leopards evened up the score 14-14. With the crowds screaming loudly on both sides, The Mountain Hawks scored another touchdown and field goal bringing the half time score to 21-14.
The third quarter started the shift towards the Leopards, and an early touchdown and field goal score evened the score back to 21-21. With less than five minutes left in the quarter, the Leopards scored again now 21-28. Notably for the Mountain Hawks, they would not score again for the rest of the game.
The Leopards scored again early in the fourth quarter, 21-35, and the gluttony didn’t end there. It was back to back touchdowns and field goals within the first five minutes, the score was 21-42. With five minutes left in the game, the Leopards made their final touchdown and field goal, a final score of 21-49 for the Leopard win.
