United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley offers grants from $1,000-5,000 to support summer learning experiences for Lehigh Valley kids.

Allentown, PA, April 22, 2021 – To provide expanded summer learning opportunities for Lehigh Valley kids, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) will offer grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to community-based organizations.

“The pandemic has been difficult on our students, and remote learning has affected their emotional and mental health. That is why summer learning efforts are crucial this year to supporting our students’ well-being and why we offer opportunities to learn, play and heal,” said Akshara Vivekananthan, Assistant Director, Education, UWGLV.

Made possible with financial support from Crayola, the 2021 Community-Based Summer Learning Microgrant Program is designed to support the summer learning efforts of 501c(3) organizations serving Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties that:

  • blend academic instruction with enrichment activities;
  • integrate recreational, cultural, and/or enrichment activities;
  • focus on social-emotional learning and building positive relationships.

“This microgrant program reflects a new pilot for our United Way focused on advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. By eliminating extensive qualification criteria, our goal is to engage with organizations in purposeful activities taking place around our community this summer to support our students,” added Vivekananthan.

The application is now available at www.unitedwayglv.org, and the deadline to apply is Friday, May 7. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in mid-May.
