Allentown, PA – The Allentown Coalition for Economic Dignity (ACED) will partner with Make the Road PA, Women’s March PA, DSA of the Lehigh Valley, and Power Lehigh Valley to host a rally on Saturday, June 29th, from 1 pm – 3pm at the Sailors and Soldiers Monument in downtown Allentown. The rally is in response to action in Harrisburg to raise the state minimum wage, and local initiatives to increase affordable housing in the Commonwealth’s third largest city.
The groups advocates for a bill that will raise the wage to at least $15/hour, includes wage parity for tipped workers, indexes future increases to any cost-of-living increases, and removes state preemption from municipalities raising their wages above the state minimum. They will also advocate for comprehensive action to improve the affordable housing stock in the city.
Representative Susan Wild will speak on the importance of raising the minimum wage and Mayor Ray O’Connell, Reps Pete Schweyer and Mike Schlossberg, and city council candidate Ce-Ce Gerlach have been invited to speak. Other speakers will include workers who make less than a living wage, city residents who struggle to afford rent, and other community leaders.
