Easton, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2018) – Lisa Esolen, MD, FIDSA, was recently appointed Chief Medical Officer at Steward Easton Hospital. Esolen, who most recently served as Assistant Chief Quality Officer at Geisinger Health System (GHS) in Danville, Pa., will direct the Easton Hospital Medical staff of nearly 400 physicians and provide guidance on issues such as health care quality, patient safety, infection prevention, data analytics, and new care delivery.
During her 11-year tenure at Geisinger, Esolen held several leadership positions that resulted in improved quality of care and patient safety. For three years, she directed the Geisinger “Patient First” Program, addressing patient care complexities real-time. She led a two-year collaboration with Johns Hopkins Hospital on a comprehensive safety program and helped improve physician/nurse response to the early warning signs of impending sepsis.
At Geisinger, Esolen developed an Infection Prevention Program that lowered hospital- acquired infections across a 9-hospital system, including lowering bloodstream infections by more than 70 percent, and prior to her departure was awarded a grant to develop an electronic system that could identify geographically linked illnesses. As an infectious disease physician, Esolen served as a keynote speaker on hospital-acquired infections, Influenza, Ebola virus, and general Infectious diseases for many Department of Health and Long-term care conferences.
Esolen earned her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and completed her Internal Medicine internship, residency, and Infectious Disease fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine. She has been awarded fellow status by the Infectious Disease Society of America for regional and national leadership in the field.
