Trucks and buses started rolling into the PPL Center on Sunday. By Monday, the full production crew along with the artists, and caterers took over the arena. The cast and crew of over 100 people represent 19 different countries. It’s round the clock rehearsals for this traveling production of Varekai, which opens this Thursday night.
With over 2000 costume pieces, which fill a full truck on their own, were unpacked from trunks, some in need of repair, or others required a little sprucing up. No small details can be overlooked. Cirque Du Soleil also travels with a full set of washers, and all costumes are dried by the gentle breeze of fans surrounding the racks of clothes.
For a few of the artists portraying characters that require masks, no two are the exact same size. Each full head mask are digitally molded to fit the artist.
The Cirque Du Soleil shows amaze audiences with elaborate set designs, costumes, and acrobatics. They use a live band as opposed to pre-recorded soundtracks, and it’s an interesting twist that artist doesn’t need to focus on trying to keep up to the music. The band paces the music to the artist, so if an artist is taking a little longer with an acrobatic move, the music allows this artist to do so.
Varekai is a critically acclaimed production that has performed to almost 10 million people worldwide since it’s start in Montreal in 2002. Come catch the excitement, the beautiful scenery and costumes, the acrobatics, and immerse yourself in the story of Varekai. Varekai opens this Thursday night and then offers two shows daily Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, brings the close of the show.
