Allentown, PA (September 26, 2016) William Allen High School Principal Luke Shafnisky recently announced that William Allen senior, Anthony Richards, was named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although these students will not continue in the 2017 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 5% of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“We are proud of Anthony’s accomplishments and the recognition he is receiving for his academic success,” stated Shafnisky. “His commitment to pursing excellence in education is a reflection of what can be accomplished by our students. Anthony truly is representative of the best of Allen.”
National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
