Bethlehem, Pa. – May 29, 2024 – PBS39 today announced it received a grant from the Truist Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund administered by The Winston-Salem Foundation, to support the Good News program that brings media literacy, education, and hands-on experiences to elementary, middle, and high school students in the Lehigh Valley region.

Good News at PBS39 is a comprehensive program offering students a pathway to media education and exposure to the many careers related to media production and news.

Elementary schools can receive PBS39 Mobile Production Unit visits for 4th and 5th grade classes. These visits offer direct experience with PBS39 production professionals who demonstrate equipment used in the field, record students for school announcements, and facilitate an interactive Q&A session.

Middle school classes can schedule a Good News tour of the studio and production rooms at the Univest Public Media Center in Southside Bethlehem. The station provides a discussion about career opportunities hosted by representatives from various departments followed by a Q&A session. Students are offered a green screen experience during which they may record school announcements in the studio or record a station break for broadcast. They also receive a media literacy kit to promote digital storytelling.

High school classes can schedule a hands-on Good News tour of the studio and production rooms and receive a more detailed explanation of careers and equipment. Students have the opportunity to shadow and work behind the scenes to produce and

record school announcements under the guidance of professional videographers, audio engineers, directors, and producers on the PBS39 team. Students also receive a media literacy kit to promote digital storytelling.
