Bethlehem, PA – March 1, 2019 – PBS39 visited schools across the Lehigh Valley to commemorate Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1, 2019. In honor of Theodor Geisel’s (aka Dr. Seuss’) birthday, PBS39 team members read Dr. Seuss books to classrooms of elementary school students in eight districts, including Allentown, Bethlehem Area, East Penn, Nazareth Area, Northern Lehigh, Salisbury Township, Pen Argyl and Whitehall-Coplay.
“Literacy is the foundation for success,” Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of PBS39 said. “Our PBS39 team is setting an example by taking time out of their schedules to read to these students and demonstrate the importance of education. PBS39 is proud to do our part to help make a positive impact in each of the classrooms we visited on Read Across America Day.”
PBS39 is deeply committed to the recently-announced Lehigh Valley Reads initiative, and is partnering with the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley to help end the cycle of poverty through education. The goal of this regional literacy campaign is to ensure all Lehigh Valley students read on grade level by the end of third grade by the year 2025.
“Knowledge is one of the most valuable tools,” Angela Zanelli, Campaign Director for Lehigh Valley Reads said. “Lehigh Valley Reads ensures that our youngest learners reach their highest potential, improving overall quality of life in our community one story at a time.”
