It really was “Nothin’ but a Good Time” this Saturday night at Allentown, PA’s PPL Center. The “Poison…Nothin’ But A Good Time 2018” Tour came to town to entertain fans ready to rock and kick off the summer! POISON is headlining with all its original members and they are joined by CHEAP TRICK and Pop Evil on their US summer tour. POISON band members are the original crew of Bret Michaels (lead vocals/guitar), Bobby Dall (bass),Rikki Rockett (drums), CC DeVille (guitars).
Prior to the show I had read a quote from Bret Michaels stating, “The all original POISON is headlining again this summer. It’s going to be a mega concert and party combined. We will be playing all the hits and bringing high energy rock and roll good times. I promise this will be awesome.” So now that I had a chance to catch them perform in Allentown, I can confirm that it really was a fun high-energy show! I think this show was extra special for them because most of the band members are originally from PA and had family in the audience. They have a very special love for PA and its fans.
I don’t recall a moment where their fans weren’t screaming, cheering, dancing, and singing along to the songs. POISON opened up with “Look What the Cat Dragged In” and the hits kept flowing. They played more favorites like “I Want Action,” and “Talk Dirty to Me.” During “Something to Believe In” Bret called up members of the Armed Forces that he knew personally to pay his respect. And then there was C.C. DeVille’s guitar solo with a metal/hard rock tone. This was one of my favorite parts of the show. It’s hard to describe this man’s talent. But the way he played the guitar, so fast, so passionate, so effortlessly…I now see why his fans love him! This led into “Fallen Angel” and “Unskinny Bop,” which really got the crowd excited! Rikki’s drum solo was also quite powerful, which he dedicated to all of his family in the audience. And then Bobby had his chance to shine with his rockin’ bass solo. They wrapped up with 2 more fan favorites. During “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” fans swayed their phones in the air and sang along. And of course the band turned back up the energy and excitement to wrap up with “Nothin’ but a Good Time!” Bret told the crowd that he couldn’t thank them enough. He was thrilled that there were 3 generations of fans in attendance. He said that song reminded him of Summer BBQs in PA. He said, “It’s good to be in PA. I can’t stop smiling.” It was evident that these guys still love playing, love their fans, love PA, and just want to give us “Nothin’ but a Good Time.” And that they did…
