The public is invited to celebrate America Recycles Day with the City of Allentown on Saturday, November 11 with family fun activities, arts and crafts, games, prizes and more!
The celebration will take place at the City of Allentown Drop off Center located at 1400 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. from 12pm-3pm.
“The celebration is an opportunity to thank residents for their continued support in reducing trash and increasing recycling,” said Manager of the Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste, Ann Saurman. “This event will bring more awareness to the importance of recycling and continue building relationships with the community.”
Participants will enjoy silly faces with Single Stream Scottie the Recycling Mascot in his photo booth. Recycling games and holiday arts and crafts will be offered and V & C Food Truck will be present. The City of Allentown Recycling Department will also be handing out a free dustpan set (1 per family) to all Allentown residents who attend.
Event sponsors include Wegmans and Just Born Candies.
In 2016, Allentown residents recycled 7,500 tons of mixed recycling material (bottles, cans, cartons cardboard and paper) in the curbside collection program. More than 1,800 tons of materials were recycled at the Allentown Drop-Off Center.
Recycling has many rewards and benefits. It protects the environment, reduces pollution, conserves energy and our natural resources, and saves valuable landfill space. For more information about recycling visit www.allentownpa.gov/recycle and like us on Facebook at facebook.com/AllentownRecycles.
