Photos & Story by: Kimberly Kanuck
I had the pleasure of attending the 2017 InVision Photo Festival, which runs from November 3rd-5th. This is an exciting opportunity to experience interactive presentations, workshops and exhibitions. Please click here for the full schedule: http://www.bananafactory.org/invision-daily-schedule/
I was able to attend a few of the keynote sessions. The first session was “Thinking Differently: Waking Up Your Creative Self,“ led by Danielle Hepper. Danielle spoke about how children are creative, uninhibited, and receive more praise and positive feedback. As adults, we have rules, guidelines, and obstacles that get in our way of being creative. We hear rejection and our active creativity is hindered. Danielle discussed the 5 Stages of Creativity that we can experience in detail.
The 2nd session was called “Bearing Witness” by Carol Guzy, a four-time Pulitzer winner. Carol provided a retrospective journey with a discussion about the importance of empathy in visual storytelling. Her photos evoked many uncontrolled emotions with the audience today and easily captured their attention. She was very inspiring.
Lastly I attended “Social Media for Creatives” by Bekah Rusnock, @IGbethlehem. She talked about how social media is the most powerful communication tool. Content, community, conversation are the key components and you have to balance all 3 if you want people to see you and interact with you.
In short, it was a fun day that allowed me to find new ways to think differently about my creativity and how to better connect with and inspire others.
