Born in Bethlehem, Guzy graduated from Liberty High School and then studied at Northampton County Community College, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing, before a change of heart led her to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida to study photography. She began her photojournalism career at The Miami Herald, and later worked at The Washington Post.

Guzy has spent years documenting everything from natural disasters to political turmoil, with a focus on the hope and compassion that exists during times of crisis. She earned her first Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography in 1986 for her pictures of the devastating mudslide in Armero, Colombia. She was recognized again in 1995 for Spot News Photography for her coverage of the military intervention in Haiti, and in 2000 she received a Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for her work in Kosovo.

Guzy won her fourth Pulitzer, for Breaking News Photography, in 2011 for coverage of the Haitian earthquake in 2010, and is the only journalist to receive four Pulitzer Prizes. She has also been named Photographer of the Year for the National Press Photographers Association three times and eight times for the White House News Photographers Association.

Now an independent photographer, Guzy’s most recent work is focused on the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, with her photos appearing on NPR, NBC News and Mother Jones. After spending nearly a month in the U.S. territory, she is returning from Puerto Rico this week for InVision.

The InVision Photo Festival, which is celebrating its eighth year, is designed to engage photographers on all levels by providing intimate access to world-class photographers and their work through an array of presentations and hands-on, experience-based workshops. The 2018 festival dates are Nov. 3-5; for tickets and complete details, visit www.invisionphotofestival.org or call 610-332-3378.
