(Eastern Pennsylvania)  Mouth-watering. Smooth as silk. Fruit forward.  Smokey.  Peppery.  Floral.  Give your taste buds a Spring Fling as the weather warms up this Season. 11 area wineries welcome Spring with the release of a dozen, brand new wines. Wine rack need a new look?  Need an excuse to have a wine party at home to show of new wine glasses?   Have an anniversary to celebrate the Spring and need a special wine with which to celebrate? Sampling and selecting new local wines is a clever way to celebrate all that Spring has to offer.

The Berks County Wine Trail will be welcoming everyone to its wine trail Saturday April 29th and Sunday April 30th, Noon to 5 PM both days, to celebrate “Taste of Spring’s New Wine Releases Weekend.” Each member winery of the trail will be showcasing its newest wine during this event weekend. Tasteful way of being introduced to some new types of wines as well as learn a bit more about why release a particular wine during this time of year.  This weekend of tasting along the wine trail is self-guided. Delightful way to spend a weekend, planning which wineries you’ll visit based upon geographical location or types of wine being offered.  Suggestions for planning your day out exploring scenic Berks County include wineries serving all new Red Wines, or new wines you’ve never experienced before, or sweet wines, or Dry Whites.

The tastings of the featured wines are free; no reservations are necessary. Please note many of the wineries do charge a modest tasting fee for the opportunity to taste wines from their full wine menu (fee often provide you with your own wine tasting glass; or are often refundable with purchase of wine).

Visit the Berks County Wine Trail’s event page at www.berkscountywinetrail.com to get a taste of things bursting into bloom on the menu during this event along the wine trail.  Some of the taste-popping wines to be shared will include:

A popular sweeter wine is making its spring return at Weathered Vineyards. “Traminette 2016” white wine: floral notes on the nose and Granny Smith apples abound! Grapes used to produce this wine came from the Lake Erie AVA Pennsylvania but wine making and bottling completed in fair-weather here in the Berks County region!

What is old is new again at Ridgewood Winery this Spring. “Olde Orchard Wine” is a breathy blend of both grapes and fruit. Winemaker Tom’s balance of Acidic apples and smooth mellow white, classic varietals slips on new look for Spring wine tasting.  Sneak peak tasters forecast this wine will be Summer’s best seller!

Enjoy fresh spring air in the Vineyard in Robesonia along with samples of the winemaker’s newest wine: “2015 Cabernet Sauvignon” made from grapes grown there. To really accentuate the experience of this wine, winemaker Kari enjoys her new wine paired with Manchego cheese. If you’ve got Spring fever  samples of homemade Clover Hill “Spring Sangria” made with Catawba, Strawberries and Kiwis is your remedy.  NOTE: This event is at the Vineyard in Robesonia only!

Sip away the darkness of Winter with this super dark, tart yet sweet wine made from Raspberries.  Long Trout Winery goes wildly crazy for Spring with its newest release: “Waskully Wraspberry Black.” Or maybe its winemaker Tom’s Waskfully personality in his winemaking that casts Winter aside for a classic, short sleeved tie-dye?

Questions about the event, or suggestions about visiting the wineries… just email the wine trail through its website. Follow the wine trail on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for ideas to help plan your tour of the wine trail during this event weekend or anytime.

This event also marks the Anniversary of the Berks County Wine Trail.  Formed thirteen years ago, the wine trail, then only a handful of wineries has now expanded to include 11 wineries in total.  This annual “Taste of…” weekend is a way for the wine trail to celebrate not only great winemaking in Berks County but the collaboration of local wineries thriving in our community.  So, join the wineries in celebration of Spring and over a decade of making wine in Pennsylvania
